MAZHARUL ULOOM COLLEGE

Many high schools were functioning in Ambur and its surrounding places managed by The Ambur Educational Society and others but there was no college. After passing S.S.L.C. most of the Muslim students could not pursue higher education in the absence of a college at Ambur.  Establishment of an arts and science college became a moot point in the Society.  While many preferred some opposed it saying that the colleges in Vaniyambadi and other neighbouring towns could serve the purpose and there was no need for establishing a college.  It was Janab Chingani Mohamed Akber Sahib who was a strong proponent of the college and changed the minds of the members of Society and it was finally decided to make a representation and request the Government of Tamil Nadu to permit The Ambur Muslim Educational Society to establish a college at Ambur.

A delegation consisting of Janab Anaikar Abdul Shukoor Sahib, Janab M. R. Abdul Wahid Sahib, Janab Peshmam Abdul Khayoom Sahib, C. Mohamed Akber Sahib, Ko. Refeeque Ahmed Sahib, Jalal Ameenur Rahaman Sahib and others met the Collector of North Arcot District Mr. Belliappa and apprised him that The Ambur Muslim Educational Society had decided to establish a college at Ambur.

Janab C. Mohamed Akbar Sahib and Ko. Rafeeque Ahmed Sahib met the Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru C. N. Annadurai with the proposal of a college at Ambur.  He was kind enough to receive them and expressed his pleasure that the Muslim Community of Ambur had come forward to address the long pending educational need of the region.  He spontaneously arranged for the approval.

Janab Syed Abdul Wahab Bukhari Sahib, Principal New College and Janab Mohamed Sayeed Sahib, Principal Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy, who were Syndicate Members of the Madras University, played an active role in getting affiliation for the College and Vice-Chancellor Shri A Lakshmana Mudaliar accorded affiliation to the college.

The President Janab Hajee Anaikar Abdul Shukoor Sahib took the responsibility and extended his financial support in implementing this project and seeing the dream of a college come true.  With the active support and help of Janab Jalal Ameenur Rahman Sahib a plot of 25.5 acres was bought from Jalal Khaleelur Raman Sahib.  Thus the college named as “Mazharul Uloom College” came into existence.  It was inaugurated on 21 July 1969 with Pre-University classes by the Quaede-Millath Janab Mohammed Ismail sahib in a grand function presided over by the Hon’ble Minister of Tamil Nadu, Janab Sadique Basha Sahib.  It was a very happy occasion for the Society and people of Ambur at large.

Janab Anaikar Abdul Shukoor Sahib and Janab K. Khaleelur Rahman Sahib became the founder President and Secretary & Correspondent of the College respectively. Prof. Basheer Ahmed Usmani Sahib who was Head of the Department of English in Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy was appointed first Principal of the College.

Prof. H. Barkath Ali Khan took over as the Principal in Charge during 1970.  Janab C. Mohamed Akbar Sahib became Secretary & Correspondent after Janab K. Khaleelur Rahman sahib resigned the post in July 1971.  The college was made first grade with the affiliation of B.A. (Economics) and B.Sc (Mathematics) Degree classes were started from 24-1-1972.  Prof P.M. Thameem Ansari Sahib was appointed Principal on 25.03.1973.

A new “Anaikar Abdul Shukoor Block” was declared open by Thiru K. Anbazhagan, the Hon’ble Minister for Public Works,  Government of Tamil Nadu on 9-3-1975 for library and additional class rooms.  The University of Madras granted affiliation to B.Com course from the academic 1975-76.  Janab C. Mohamed Akbar Sahib continued his office till August 1976 and then Janab K. Refeeque Sahib became the Secretary & Correspondent and continued till June 1981.  Janab Khateeb Munawar Hussain Sahib was the Secretary & Correspondent from July 1981 to Feb 1982.

In the same year Janab Bangi Akbar Pasha Sahib was elected Secretary & Correspondent and continued in office till his last breath in March 1998. His passing was a great loss to the society and the college in particular.  During his tenure of office many developments took place in the college.  He was in constant consultation with the Principal Prof P.M. Thameem Ansari Sahib and succeeded in introducing B.A. Corporate Secretary-ship in the year 1984-85 and B.Sc. Computer Science in 1987-88.  The principal served the college for a long period of 21 years and due to personal reasons relinquished the post in 1994.  Prof. D. Nisar Ahmed was appointed Principal during the year 1994.  Janab N.M. Yahya Sahib was holding the post of Executive Assistant Secretary of the college until his passing away.  He was the guiding force behind every activity of the college and always gave considered opinions for implementation of various projects.  He saw to it that no student was denied admission in the college and went out of the way to help the poor and needy students.  He had planned well about admission procedures which bought good results to the institution and the students alike.  He was a good Samaritan.
