SWITCH OVER TO TAMIL MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

Another perplexing issue confronting the Management during 1950s was the medium of instruction.  Till 1953 Urdu was the medium of instruction at the elementary level in all the feeder schools.  The students of Madrasa-e-Mazharul Uloom were taught and presented for the S.S.L.C. Public Examination in English medium.  This system could not be continued as per the strict instructions from the Department of Public Instructions.  But the practical problem was that adequate teachers and textbooks were not available in Urdu Language.  So they were forced to switch over to the regional language Tamil as medium of instruction.

It was found that a large number of students began to discontinue their studies with the secondary education and sought employment in business firms.  But they were unable to cope up with the correspondence due to their low attainment in English. To solve this problem, the Department of Public Instructions was requested to permit to have special types of schools with English medium.

Consequent upon the change brought about by the Government, Tamil became the medium of instruction and everyone had the opportunity to acquire a good knowledge of the regional language.

POST GOLDEN JUBILEE PERIOD

Between 1955 and 1958 the Management was busy in equipping the High School with proper infrastructure and took great pains to maintain the standard.  It made continuous attempts to improve the conditions of all the institutions.  The elementary school which was functioning under the thatched roofs was shifted to the building vacated by the high school at Jalal Road next to the Chowk mosque.

In 1958 new office bearers of the Society were elected.  Janab Moulvi Madekar Mohamed Casim sahib was re-elected as President and Janab T Abdul Wahid sahib was elected as Hon General Secretary and he continued to serve the Society with dedication and devotion for a period of 10 years.

Janab Moulvi Madekar Mohamed Casim sahib passed away on 23 August 1963 after serving the Society as General Secretary from 1914 to 1916, Vice President from 1916 to 1939 and President from 1939 onwards continuously.  His passing away was an irredeemable loss to the community and the Society.  A meeting was organized to condole his demise and record his services to them.

As Janab T Abdul Wahid sahib, General Secretary tendered his resignation, new office bearers were elected on 29.9.1968.  Janab Hajee Anaikar Abdul Shukooor sahib and Janab K. Khaleelur Rahman sahib were elected unanimously as President and General Secretary respectively.

In 1978 when the high schools in Tamil Nadu were upgraded to Higher Secondary Schools in Elementary + High + Higher Secondary (5 + 10 + 2) pattern, the Management upgraded both Mazharul Uloom and Hasnath-e-Jaria Girls High Schools.

In Mazharul Uloom Higher Secondary School provisions were made for parallel English, Urdu and Tamil mediums from Standard VI to X and English medium in Standard XI and XII in the academic and vocational courses.  The English medium sections of VI to X are self-financing.
